about septoplasty

deviated Septum surgery

Breathing touches every aspect of our health and every minute of our lives. A deviated septum can block airflow through one or both nostrils, making it difficult to breathe well. This surgery, which can often be done at the same time as a cosmetic rhinoplasty, can help you breathe better for the rest of your life.

what is...

A Deviated Septum?

A deviated septum is a condition in which the cartilage and bone that divides the nasal passage is crooked, blocking airflow and making it difficult to breathe. The septum is made up of cartilage and bone and divides the nasal cavity into two passages. The septum is usually straight, but it can be crooked or deviated, whether from injury or naturally since birth.

How does Deviated Septum Surgery work?

Also known as septoplasty, the procedure is designed to correct a misaligned nasal septum - the thin wall of cartilage and bone that separates the nostrils. During the procedure, the surgeon makes an incision inside the nostrils to access the septum, minimizing visible scarring. The deviated portions of cartilage and bone are then carefully removed or repositioned to create a straighter septum. This procedure can be combined with cosmetic rhinoplasty procedures to simultaneously enhance the overall aesthetics of the nose. Once the septum is correctly aligned, the incision is closed using sutures.

types of nose surgery

cosmetic rhinoplasty

A surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance and proportion of the nose in relation to the rest of the face. Cosmetic Rhinoplasty can address various aesthetic concerns, such as size, shape, bridge width, nostril asymmetry, or nasal tip angle, to create a more balanced and harmonious facial appearance.

Deviated Septum

The nasal septum is the cartilage that separates the left and right nasal cavities. When the septum is “deviated” or bent, either due to nasal trauma or a congenital abnormality, the airway through one or both nasal cavities can be obstructed, causing breathing difficulties and lead to chronic sinus disease.

Sinus Surgery

A specialized procedure aimed at treating chronic sinusitis, a persistent inflammation of the sinus cavities that can cause symptoms such as nasal congestion, facial pain, and recurrent infections. When non-surgical treatments fail to provide relief, sinus surgery offers a more definitive solution to address the underlying issues.
