I am commonly asked, "Why do you have so few photos of cosmetic eyelid surgery and facelifts on your website and social media relative to the rhinoplasty photos?"
There are a couple reasons for this. In terms of volume, I do perform more nose surgeries than cosmetic eyelid or facelift surgeries. My surgical schedule is approximately 70% nose surgery and 30% blepharoplasty (eyelid) surgery and facelifts, with neck liposuction, chin implants and otoplasty as well.
But the main reason is that people getting cosmetic nose surgery are so happy with their results and are very open to sharing those results with others. Generally speaking, it is not their "fault" that their nose might be considered too big, is crooked, has an old nasal fracture, a hump or a bump. The fact is, eyelid surgery and/or facelift surgery is necessary because of aging - a very sore subject for most of us. Admitting that you want to change your appearance because of aging is difficult for many. Therefore, some patients want to keep this type of surgery a secret. I've had patients keep the secret from partners, close friends and even their children! Oftentimes, even our rhinoplasty patients are "shy" when it comes to sharing their photos and request that we either zoom in to only see the nose or camouflage the rest of their features in some way to hide their identity. But, when showing eyelid or facelift surgery results, there is no camouflage and one's identity, and this very personal and private experience, becomes public.
In any case, recently, I've had several kind and very happy patients share, for educational purposes, their early results following blepharoplasty surgery. Please find below photographs of one particular gentleman 6 days after upper blepharoplasty, lower transconjuctival blepharoplasty and fractional CO2 laser to the lower eyelids. You can see from the photos below that the upper eyelid surgery requires a blue suture sewn within the natural eyelid crease to make the scarring imperceptible. The lower eyelid operation involves an internal incision so there is no external scar. The CO2 laser tightens the skin nicely and the redness is generally gone with 7-10 days.
Cosmetic eyelid surgery has very little down time, very little post operative discomfort, and amazingly positive cosmetic results which last for decades. This operation makes one look younger and less tired once the extra hanging skin from the upper eyelids is removed and the puffy lower eyelid bags are gone. It is further enhanced by the fractional CO2 laser which tightens the skin and helps eliminate dark pigmentation and wrinkles of the lower eyelids, evidenced by my patient below. She looks younger, refreshed and more "bright-eyed" after surgery and this look will last her for years to come.
